Southern California was in a frenzy after the LA Kings were victorious in the Stanley Cup Final. Sharing in their enthusiasm was LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, who couldn’t contain his excitement at a Kings Rally being broadcast on live TV when he let an “f-bomb” slip.
He was heard by many saying “There are two rules in politics: they say never ever be pictured with a drink in your hand and never swear, but this is a big f—in’ day; way to go guys!” He also was holding what appeared to be an aluminum beer bottle in his hand. A FOX Sports broadcaster apologized for the mayor’s language later in the rally, and the Kings president of business operations also poked fun at the outburst.
Though some were not happy with the outcry, Garcetti rolled with it, saying that the city didn’t win in “lawn bowling.” He then warned any kids out there to not repeat what he had said.
Though some were not pleased with the mayor’s language, one man saying Garcetti was just reflecting “the way people talk,” and that it made the mayor seem more like an average person. A Kings player even said, “If I wasn’t a Canadian I’d vote for him,” in support of Garcetti’s action.
A poll at CBSLA showed that 72 percent of those voting on the issue thought it was unacceptable for a mayor to swear at a public event.
