A U.S. Army reservist from Sacramento, California has been identified as one of the six soldiers killed by an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54, was killed Sunday, one day after the U.S. launched a series of strikes on Iran. Marzan and his fellow soldiers were inside a makeshift operations center at Port Shuaiba when they were hit by a retaliatory strike.
Governor Gavin Newsom’s office issued the following statement:
California mourns the loss of Chief Warrant Officer Three Marzan, a courageous Californian whose service to our nation was marked by honor and distinction. We offer our deepest condolences to his wife and family during this time of profound sorrow. The sacrifices made by military families are immeasurable, and California stands in solidarity with them, united in grief and gratitude. Chief Warrant Officer Three Marzan's steadfast commitment exemplifies the highest ideals of our state and our country.
Flags at the Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space are being flown at half-staff.
The five other soldiers have been identified as Capt. Cody Khork, 35, of Florida; Sgt. Declan Coady, 20, of Iowa; Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, 39, of Minnesota; Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42, of Nebraska; and Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, 45, of Iowa.
