Six months after his retirement as city manager of Pittsburg, Garrett Evans has landed a new gig. On March 9, he took over as interim city manager for Pinole, another Contra Costa County city.
Evans has worked in local government for nearly three decades. He previously served as Pittsburg’s director of economic development, director of the redevelopment agency, director of power, and assistant city manager.
During his tenure, Pittsburg “experienced remarkable growth in economic development, infrastructure improvements, and community services,” according to the city.
Pinole Police Chief Melissa Klawuhn had been serving as acting city manager since December when Kelcey Young stepped down. The city council thanked Klawuhn for her service over the past three months.
Pinole is actively searching for a permanent executive. On March 14, members of the public were invited to share their thoughts at a “Meet the Recruiter” event. The city has also been gathering input through an online survey.
