The Port of Los Angeles has extended the stay of a giant rubber duck that has attracted swarms of residents, tourists, and selfie-takers alike.
The six-story-tall inflatable toy, created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, first made its debut at the Tall Ships Festival on August 20. It proved to be an overwhelming sensation, causing the festival to hit max capacity. In fact, Port Police and Caltrans almost shut the festival down early Sunday due to the massive crowds. Los Angeles City Council Member Joe Buscaino soon intervened to have the gates kept open.
Now that the festival is over, the Port Authority says the duck will stay for another two weeks. On Monday, it launched “the Duck Days of Summer,” which will give newcomers a chance to come see and take photos with the world’s tallest rubber duckie.
“Our intent is to let everybody see this,” said port spokesman Phillip Sanfield. “Each day we’ll be doing something a little bit different.”
The best part? It’s free.
