Did you miss him? Perhaps not for long.
Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced Saturday that he is “seriously” considering a run for the U.S. Senate Seat which will soon be vacated by Barbara Boxer.
"Too many Californians are struggling to make ends meet, pay the bills and send their kids to college,” Villaraigosa said in a statement. "… It would be an honor to serve Californians again in the future. The urgency of the needs of the people of this great state have convinced me to seriously consider looking at running for California's open Senate seat.”
Villaraigosa’s announcement came days after current Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti quashed any rumors that he may be entering the race. Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom has also said he will not run. California Attorney General Kamala Harris, however, is expected to announce her candidacy today.
Barbara Boxer announced her impending retirement on Thursday. Her decision will end a thirty year career in congressional politics.
