It seems California could use a little lesson on the art of romance—if Amazon is to be believed.
Just ahead of Valentine’s Day, Amazon.com has released its list of the most romantic cities in the United States, and not a single California city has made the list. Believe it or not, the #1 spot went to Knoxville, TN. Rounding out the top five were Miami, FL; Orlando, FL; Alexandria, VA; and Vancouver, WA.
So, how can this be?
It might have something to do with the way Amazon ranked its love-struck cities. The results were apparently based on sales data for romance products, including everything from romantic comedies to “sexual wellness” items. To determine the rankings, Amazon looked at per capita sales in cities with at least 100,000 people, which could explain the surprising results.
San Jose was the lone California city to make the same list last year, but it dropped off in 2015.
Look, we respect Amazon’s findings. But we’ll take five-star dinners and walks along the beach over Nicholas Sparks films any day.
