Have you ever wondered what the world’s major cities would look like if they were made of food? Well, someone has. And it’s awesome.
Photographer Andrea G. Portoles and illustrator Bea Crespo recently took the old adage, “You are what you eat,” and ran with it, creating edible masterpieces for a photo series called “Brunch City.” The project recreates the world’s great metropolises into small models made up of their residents’ favorite brunch items.
"We wanted to find a typical plate in each city that was easy to relate to," Portoles and Crespo said. "For each city, we choose the most representative food or drink.”
Athens, for instance, is reimagined as an overflowing cup of Greek yogurt (good stuff!) with a model of the Parthenon situated right on top. For Paris, we’ve got the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and other Parisian monuments on a flaky, buttery croissant.
New York kind of has us scratching our heads. Instead of a true brunch item or even a slice of classic New York pizza, we end up with a carton of French fries. But what the artists may lack in accuracy, they make up for in creativity. The fries themselves look an awful lot like skyscrapers. Lady Liberty, meanwhile, is sitting atop a blob of ketchup resembling the New York Harbor.
Is anyone else hungry?
