Pending City Council approval, Sacramento City Manager John Shirey will stick around the state capital through late 2016. The City Council has also scheduled a performance review for his current contract and will receive an update from Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.
Shirey’s contract is a rich one. His new base salary would see him bringing in a little more than $268,000, a mark only ten California city managers eclipse.
The new contract allows Shirey to enter his fifth year of service for Sacramento, having started in August 2011. Prior to his arrival, Sacramento endured a period that saw three separate city managers come and go in a little more than a year.
This is his second contract extension, the first coming in September 2014, and he shows no signs of discomfort with his Sacramento post, “I feel like my job is not done, and I feel like this is the most exciting time to be in Sacramento,” Shirey said.
