Steven Michael Quezada played DEA Agent Steven Gomez in the hit show, but now he is seeking a seat on the Bernalillo County Commision.
Having previously served on the Albuquerque School Board, he says his joining the race is about “making a difference for the district that includes the historic Hispanic South Valley and an area in Albuquerque's west side where developers are seeking to build homes.”
Quezada has stressed the importance of outreach to the area’s youth and what good getting them involved can do for the area.
At current, he will face off with three others for the open seat in the 2016 election.
Recently, Quezada has become more active with the New Mexico Democratic Party after a worrisome 2014 that saw a GOP takeover of the New Mexico House.
Quezada wants the state party to do more in reaching out to Latino voters, citing New Mexico having the nation’s highest percentage of Latino residents.
One of Quezada’s opponents, Adrian Pedroza, says he looks forward to a spirited campaign.
