The call for review comes after both Mayor Kevin Johnson and Councilman Allen Warren were accused of sexual harassment.
City Councilman Steve Hansen will ask the City Auditor’s Office to review the city’s sexual harassment and workplace safety policies at Tuesday’s council meeting. Hansen will then follow this review with a “safe place to work initiative.”
Sacramento’s written policy on sexual harassment has not seen considerable update in at least 10 years. Hansen, an attorney, added “There is a lot left to be desired in terms of its clarity, the ability to find it and to understand how it works.”
The city’s investigation into the accusations against Warren have just begun and the City Attorney’s Office is using outside firm Angelo, Kilday and Kilduff to assist in the inquiry. Angelo, Kilday and Kilduff also reviewed the city’s investigation for the accusations against Mayor Johnson.
Hansen stressed the quick turnaround necessary for this matter and wants a report from the City Auditor’s Office within the next 30 days.
