Another day, another apparent act of random violence on the streets of Hollywood. Only this time, the full scale of the attack was minimized by a couple of New York’s Finest.
The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. at a shopping and entertainment complex at Hollywood and Highland. There, a Russian tourist and his family were simply walking when an individual began stabbing him "suddenly, for no reason,” according to members of the LAPD.
Fortunately, the scuffle caught the attention of two off-duty New York police detectives who were nearby, visiting Los Angeles on official police business. They pulled out their weapons and subdued the assailant before he could cause any further harm. The victim survived the attack and is now recovering at a local hospital.
Wednesday’s assault comes two years after a tourist’s fatal stabbing by a panhandler in the same vicinity of Hollywood. The assailant, who had a history of mental illness, began attacking when the woman refused to give him money.Just one week ago, TV actress Pauley Perrette was also allegedly assaulted at random by a transient outside her Hollywood home.
So far, little is known about the attacker in Wednesday's stabbing.
