In an effort to ease the housing crisis, Los Angeles officials have proposed legalizing “bootleg” apartments.
Landlords are currently splitting up apartments in order to duplicate the number available for potential renters.

Under the new law, the units would be moderate or low-income and must have existed before Dec. 10, 2015 in order to qualify for legalization.
