Congratulations, New York! You’re not topping Travel and Leisure’s list of the rudest cities in America anymore! The latest rankings for 2016 just gave that designation to Miami, Florida, thanks to its flashy consumerism and unabashed vanity.
Travel and Leisure’s rankings are based on reader surveys. Voters took an array of factors into account including cultural offerings like upscale restaurants and museums; walkability; how safe a city feels; and, of course, how cordial its residents are.
Miami wasn’t the only surprise. Phoenix, Arizona took the No. 2 spot this year. Despite its familiarity with snowbirds, “Phoenix doesn’t seem to be getting more hospitable toward visitors,” the popular travel magazine said.
New York still ranks as the 3rd rudest city in the nation. After all, there are plenty of reasons to go to the Big Apple, but pushy pedestrians and ornery cab drivers just aren’t one of them.
L.A. took the No. 4 spot again, with Philadelphia rounding out the top 5. Philly was just rated the angriest city in the country too, so it might be time to improve the ‘tude.
