Four more Oakland Police officers have been fired and another seven suspended as part of a recently completed investigation into widespread allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor. In addition, Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley announced criminal charges against seven Bay Area officers Friday, ranging from oral sex with a minor and lewd behavior to obstruction of justice, improper use of department computers, and failure to report sexual assault.
Five of the individuals charged Friday are from Oakland. One worked for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department and another for the Livermore Police Department.
On Thursday, Richmond city officials also admitted that they had a hand in sending the woman at the center of the scandal, known by her alias Celeste Guap, to a rehab facility in Florida, conveniently located thousands of miles from the investigation. The revelation has added to speculation about a wide-ranging conspiracy that reached the top echelons of Bay Area law enforcement.
Guap remains jailed in Florida but was offered a plea deal Monday which could accelerate her return to California, at which point charges against the Oakland officers would formally be filed. She is expected to testify.
