The former top cop of the Los Angeles Port was sentenced to two years in federal prison Tuesday after admitting to evasion of taxes and lying to the FBI.
In February, Ronald Boyd made a deal with prosecutors, who agreed to drop federal corruption charges in exchange for a guilty plea. Boyd has confessed to concealing more than $1.1 million in income and lying to federal agents about a bribery scheme involving a contract for the Port’s PortWatch smartphone app, which allows employees, city officials and the public to report emergencies and criminal activity around the port.
In addition to the prison sentence, Boyd was ordered to serve three years on supervised release. He owes $305,054 in restitution.
Boyd stepped down from his position on Nov. 29.
