A new day has dawned for former Thousand Oaks City Manager Scott Mitnick. He took over Wednesday as the new chief executive of Sutter County, having beaten out 25 other applicants for the job.

"Leaving there (Thousand Oaks) was indeed a tough thing," Mtinick said Tuesday night. "But it created this opportunity ... So I'm excited to begin this new chapter."

Mitnick didn’t just leave Thousand Oaks; he was ousted in July following some unethical actions involving his son’s baseball team. You can read City News’ original story on his firing here.

Sutter County Supervisors didn’t seem all that concerned by the questions involving Mitnick’s judgement. In him, they see an experienced professional who knows how to get the job done.

"He helped a divided City Council in Thousand Oaks become stable, productive and forward thinking," Sutter County Supervisor Jim Whiteaker said. "He sees the big picture and that is what you need in a CAO."

Indeed, Mitnick brings with him a wealth of experience in public administration. He served Thousand Oaks for more than 16 years and had held the city manager position since 2005. As Sutter’s new Chief Administrative Officer, Mitnick will earn an annual base salary of $230,000 plus benefits. In 2015, his total compensation package was $387,457, making him the highest paid city manager in Ventura County.
