Summer is over -- unless you’re in SoCal, which apparently hasn’t gotten the memo. But now is the perfect time to begin thinking about your family trips next year. So naturally, Lonely Planet has released its list of the best places to travel to in 2018.
So far so good.
But, uh, here’s the list:
Lonely Planet's top 10 cities for travel in 2018
1. Seville, Spain
2. Detroit, USA
3. Canberra, Australia
4. Hamburg, Germany
5. Kaohsiung, Taiwan
6. Antwerp, Belgium
7. Matera, Italy
8. San Juan, Puerto Rico
9. Guanajuato, Mexico
10. Oslo, Norway
We have nothing against Detroit. It’s a very cool city with an up-and-coming art scene. But it also has one of the highest murder rates in the nation, so it seems a little odd that it’s No. 2. We’d have picked a nice Golden State locale instead.
No. 3 had people scratching their heads as well. We’ve never been to Canberra but even the people who live there seem bewildered that they ended up on Lonely Planet’s list.
As you can imagine, San Juan was ecstatic at the inclusion. We hope Puerto Rico is doing better by then.
