The Belmont City Council has appointed a new member to fill the vacancy left by Eric Reed’s passing in December. Planning Commission Chair Julia Mates will occupy the seat until November 2018.
Mates was one of four people to apply for the open council seat, the city said. Her familiarity with planning issues was a big plus in the eyes of council members.
"I look forward to her contributions that will help us all serve the public's interests,” Mayor Douglas Kim said.
