L.A. Cracks Down on Disruptive House Parties

Dude, Chad and J.T. are going to be majorly bummed. Because in spite of their passionate pleas last December, the Los Angeles City Council has approved an ordinance aimed at cracking down on the city’s wild house parties once and for all.

Los Angeles residents who host large-scale, complaint-generating parties could face thousands of dollars in fines under a [sic] ordinance approved Wednesday by the City Council in an effort to crack down on so- called "party houses."

The ordinance was drafted by the City Attorney's Office in response to a motion introduced by Councilman David Ryu, whose Fourth District includes the Hollywood Hills, where many nuisance party houses have been reported.

Ryu clarified that the city isn’t planning to go after birthday goers and bbqs.

“These are large events,” he said, “flyer parties often with a cover charge that bring hundreds of people, and most importantly, that are creating a massive public safety hazard."

Violators could be fined up to $8,000 under the new rules, which received unanimous support from the city council. Those held responsible would include, not only the party throwers, but those renting out their homes for these large-scale events.
