The Institute for Local Government (ILG) has a new Executive Director at the helm.

Erica Manuel assumed the position on January 22, the ILG announced. She is an experienced public affairs professional with more than 15 years in the public and non-profit sectors. She most recently served as the Community, Economic Development and Education Manager for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District where she has worked since 2010.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead the Institute for Local Government during this exciting time of change for the organization,” said Manuel. “I share the Institute’s dedication to supporting local leaders in fostering sustainable, vibrant and healthy communities and look forward to this exciting opportunity.”

The ILG is a non-profit institute dedicated to promoting good governance at the local level through the provision of information and resources for cities and counties throughout California. It is an affiliate of the League of California Cities, the California Special Districts Association, and the California State Association of Counties (CSAC).

The League’s Executive Director Carolyn Coleman said the organization is “thrilled to have Erica lead ILG during this dynamic time of change for the organization." She called her “a seasoned professional with strong leadership experience and communications skills that will enable the Institute to be an even stronger partner to California’s communities.”

CSAC Executive Director Graham Knaus said his organization is also “excited to welcome Erica to ILG, and is looking forward to continued collaboration with the Institute as we work to create resilient communities and support California’s Counties in delivering the breadth of services communities rely on.”

“Over the past few years, CSDA has successfully partnered with ILG to build awareness of the impact of special districts in local communities,” explained Neil McCormick, Chief Executive Officer of the California Special Districts Association. “We welcome Erica and are excited to build on our recent momentum as we continue to work together.”
