Another major shake-up has hit the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). Voice of San Diego reports that three senior staffers were fired last week: Chief Deputy Executive Director Kim Kawada, Land Use and Transportation Planning Director Muggs Stoll, and Communications Director David Hicks.
It’s the latest in a string of changes at the regional planning agency. According to the publication, the staffers were close to SANDAG’s former head Gary Gallegos.
“All three have been important and valuable team members during their time at SANDAG and I want to publicly acknowledge and thank each of them for their hard work and dedication which has shaped the agency as we know it today,” Hassn Ikhrata, the current director, wrote in an internal email.
Three different people will oversee the chief deputy executive director’s responsibilities. Coleen Clementson, who has been working on SANDAG’s 5 Big Moves project, will fill in for Stoll. Former San Diego Union-Tribune reporter and government communications specialist Irene McCormack will take over for Hicks.
