Cities and Counties Deal With a Rush on Evictions

California communities are witnessing a rush on evictions and rent raises ahead of statewide protections that go into effect Jan. 1.

Examples abound in the Central Valley, Pasadena, San Mateo County, and Arden Arcade where 40 leases in a 54-unit complex are being terminated.

In Los Angeles, Milpitas, Redwood City, and Santa Cruz, emergency measures have been passed to prevent the stampede. Renter advocates in Pasadena and Sacramento County are urging their leaders to do the same.
