The American economy is humming. There are more than 30 million businesses in the U.S. already and, in 2020, entrepreneurs are expected to add even more to that list. But finding the best city for your next startup can be a challenge. That’s why Inc. Magazine and innovation policy company Startup Genome have created the Surge Cities Index, a ranking of the best cities for starting a business next year.
Inc. considered job figures from 2018 and 2019, population growth, net business creation, entrepreneur rates, wage growth and more. You can view the full rankings and methodology here.
These were the top 10 Surge Cities:
1. Austin, TX
2. Salt Lake City, UT
3. Durham, NC
4. Denver, CO
5. Boise, ID
6. San Francisco, CA*
7. Charleston, SC
8. San Diego, CA*
9. Phoenix, AZ
10. Miami, FL
Also making the list were the cities of San Jose (#13), Los Angeles (#17), Sacramento (#26), Bakersfield (#27), Riverside (#35), and Oxnard (#41).
List and data is compiled by Inc. Magazine and does not reflect statistics on all cities.
