School Burglaries a Growing Problem in San Jose

Campuses across the state are empty, and that has left an opening for thieves.

The San Jose Police Department said it has seen a dramatic rise in school burglaries since the shutdown. Between March 16 and April 11, school burglaries rose 550% over the same time period last year. Overall crime is down 31%, though the city has seen a spike in domestic violence cases.

Clyde Fischer Middle School has been broken into three times, according to KTVU. 

“We are all concerned the longer this shelter in place goes on, the more we may see increases,” said Chief Eddie Garcia of San Jose Police. “For now, I’m very pleased and proud of the city of where are numbers are at.”
