Sonoma Sees a Housing Boom as San Franciscans Flee

The pandemic has drastically changed the face of the San Francisco Bay Area. Over half of San Francisco’s businesses have permanently closed. The tech industry still has most people working from home. Now residents are fleeing to more secluded, inexpensive areas, emptying out what used to be one of the most desirable places to live.

Sonoma County has seen a large influx of Bay Area residents as a result.

Local real estate agents say the demand is in large part driven by buyers from San Francisco, the East Bay, Silicon Valley and even the Central Coast. That’s pushed Sonoma County’s median existing home price up 10% in July from a year ago, to an all-time high of $720,000, according to the most recent data from Compass real estate brokerage in Santa Rosa...

In July, sales of single-family houses in the county soared 36% from the same time last year, according to Compass data. A total of 612 homes were sold, compared with 451 in July 2019. — The Press Democrat
