The San Francisco Department of Public Health has forced the closure of an In-N-Out Burger in Fisherman’s Wharf for failing to check customers’ vaccination cards. Many more In-N-Out closures could soon follow.

In a statement, In-N-Out Chief Legal & Business Officer Arnie Wensinger said the company refuses “to become the vaccination police for any government.”

“We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business,” he added.

The Fisherman’s Wharf location has now reopened but without in-person dining.

The chain has numerous restaurants in the City of Los Angeles where similar rules kick in next month. There are over 250 locations statewide. People who prefer a sit-down meal would be wise to start scoping out burger alternatives now. Here’s a list of the best hamburgers in Fisherman’s Wharf from TripAdvisor. And here’s Time Out’s list of the 25 best burgers in LA.
