An assistant city attorney in Milwaukee is out of a job after she defended the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Russian state TV, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Jennifer DeMaster recently appeared on Russia Today (RT) TV, a state-run news channel which has long peddled misinformation to American audiences. She claimed Russian President Vladimir Putin had a right to recognize the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk before sending in his "peacekeeping" forces. DeMaster further argued that the military operation — which has killed hundreds if not thousands of civilians and displaced one million Ukrainians — does not violate international law and poses no threat to the U.S.
DeMaster was fired Monday, with city officials saying she was not the right fit for the job. The termination was long overdue, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has been calling for her removal for some time.
In addition to a history of defending the Kremlin, DeMaster has been accused of longstanding anti-Muslim bigotry. She previously worked for the Clarion Project, which has been accused of spreading anti-Muslim propaganda. She also authored a book called "Babylon Unveiled," which has been criticized for promoting a bigoted view of Islam.
"Follow one American Christian woman's eyewitness experience into the heart of the Middle East as she shares why she refused to accept the narratives of the region or the conclusions from the media," the summary reads. "Attorney Jennifer Breedon DeMaster exposes the lies about the situation in the Middle East, persecution of Christians, reformers of Islam, and first-hand eyewitness experiences of Muslim converts to Christ, including Middle East officials, that you've never heard of. Learn about what led to the rise of ISIS, who has really been protecting the Christians, and which feared Muslim countries may house some of the greatest hope for followers of Jesus."
