Many UC Davis students got their first full night’s sleep over the weekend following the arrest of an alleged serial stabber who had terrorized the town for days.
The suspect in the slayings, 21-year-old Carlos Dominguez, is a former UC Davis student who was “separated” from the university two days before the first murder. He was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of murder plus one count of attempted murder.
According to Yolo District Attorney Jeff Reisig, the county is alleging a Special Circumstance for Multiple Murders, which will make this case eligible for either the death penalty or life without parole. Dominguez has entered a plea of not guilty.
Police received multiple reports of a man matching the killer’s description at a local park on Thursday. Officers who stopped the suspect say they found physical evidence on his person linking him to the crimes.
“A murderer is off the streets,” Davis Mayor Will Arnold proclaimed at a news conference.
Nighttime classes at UC Davis, which had gone virtual for safety reasons, have resumed in person. The university says it is offering additional counseling services to students.
