A new poll has underscored deep economic anxieties among California residents.
The California Community Poll was conducted by Strategies 360 and sponsored by the Los Angeles Urban League, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality, and the Center for Asians United for Self-Empowerment. Responses were gathered between June 6 and June 16.
According to the survey, 40% of Californians are considering moving out of the state, with nearly half describing that consideration as "very serious." Around 61% cited the high cost of living as the reason.
Forty-three percent of respondents, including 20% of Democrats, believe the state is on the wrong track. Around 80% are dissatisfied with the cost of living and almost 70% are dissatisfied with the economy.
Crime and safety concerns are an issue too. Over half of respondents (55%) are dissatisfied with crime and public safety in their area.
There were bright spots. Despite the economic hardship, around 70% of residents are happy living here. One of the primary reasons is the state’s diversity and culture.
