San Francisco has been in the spotlight as racial tensions with police rise.
This week, Mayor Ed Lee has responded by proposing to increase spending for the police force. Sac Bee reports an additional $17.5 million will be part of the mayor’s reform package that he hopes will change police procedures.
Earlier this year, the shooting of a Black man by police was the tipping point for citizens to respond. Additionally, racist and homophobic texts between officers have surfaced this year fueling even more tension.
We hope this package serves the city well.
