The Irvine City Council will consider a proposal on May 13 to raise the minimum wage for full-time city workers to $25 an hour. This is more than a 150% increase from the state $16.50 minimum wage.
Mayor Larry Agran is spearheading the proposal noting high cost of living in the city, including a median rent cost of $2,749.
The proposal includes a $20 hourly minimum wage for part-time city employees, as well as for employees of contractors with the city providing services that at an estimated value of $200,000 or more.
