The Clovis Police Department says it will file misdemeanor charges against any adults who attended recent student walkouts in protest of federal immigration raids. That includes two people who have already been identified and are facing charges of “contributing to the delinquency of a minor.”
The Clovis Unified School District is on board with the police department’s decision. School district and law enforcement officials say the demonstrations have put students at risk of bodily harm, with some coming “very close to being hit by drivers,” according to police department spokesperson Ty Wood.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage to identify any adults who participated in the protests. Some parents are crying foul, insisting that they were only helping students cross the streets safely.
Over the weekend, 10 Fresno County superintendents published an open letter urging students and families to end the school walkouts.
