Alameda Releases Secret Tape Recording at Center of 2018 Controversy

The City of Alameda has finally released the transcript and recording at the center of a controversy involving members of the city council and former city manager Jill Keimach in 2017 and 2018.

To recap, Keimach accused two city council members of pressuring her to hire a union-backed candidate as fire chief in violation of the city charter.

Keimach recorded a conversation between herself and the city leaders in August of 2017. While the district attorney determined the recordings did not break the law, Keimach resigned last year under a $900,000, agreement with the city.

A June report from the Alameda County civil grand jury faulted the council members for violating the charter.

You can now hear the recording at www.alamedaca.gov/GOVERNMENT/recording-release. For further context and a summary, visit the East Bay Times.
