For the second time in 13 years, a jury has found former Compton Mayor Omar Bradley guilty of public corruption. Bradley was convicted Friday of two counts of misappropriating public funds after prosecutors accused him of spending some $7,500 in city cash on shoes, cigars and lavish hotel stays.
Bradley was first convicted in 2004 but the decision was overturned five years ago on a technicality. That freed him up for another run for office. And then another. He lost his second bid for mayor against Aja Brown in June of this year.
Friday’s conviction means the former schoolteacher and political kingpin cannot return to public office. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 30.
