Arroyo Grande City Manager Whitney McDonald is stepping down. As of Aug. 14, she will serve as Assistant City Manager for San Luis Obispo.
McDonald was hired as Arroyo’s top administrator in 2020. Previously, she served as Community Development Director and Acting Deputy City Manager. She has a Juris Doctorate from UCLA and a Bachelor of Arts from UC Santa Barbara.
"Joining the City of San Luis Obispo as Assistant City Manager is an incredible honor," said McDonald. "I am excited to work alongside the dedicated team of professionals in serving this vibrant community. Together, we will continue to build upon San Luis Obispo's legacy of sustainability, innovation, and high-quality services. I look forward to collaborating with community members and stakeholders to create positive and lasting impacts for all."
San Luis Obispo City Manager Derek Johnson praised McDonald’s “ability to build strong relationships and foster partnerships.”
McDonald is replacing San Luis Obispo Assistant City Manager Shelly Stanwyck, who is retiring.
