At a recent meeting, the Azusa City Council voted unanimously to hire Troy Butzlaff as the city’s newest City Manager.
Butzlaff was selected from a pool of nearly 40 applicants who had submitted resumes by November 6th. He brings to Azusa over twenty years in public sector and senior management experience and has served in a number of municipalities throughout Southern California, including 6 years as Assistant City Manager with the City of Palm Springs, 5 years in Indian Wells. Most recently, he worked as City Administrator for the City of Placentia.
According to a biography page on Placentia's city website, Butzlaff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of La Verne, and belongs to a number of professional organizations, including the Orange County City Management Association, the California City Management Foundation, and the International City / County Management Association.
Azusa’s City Manager post has been without a permanent occupant since former City Manager James Makshanoff’s resignation in September. Butzlaff is scheduled to relieve Interim Manager Don Penman of the seat on February 17th.
