The City of Bakersfield has hired a second Assistant City Manager to join Gary Hallen, who was appointed just two months ago. Bakersfield announced the hiring of Scott Andrews as Assistant City Manager this week. He is starting Monday, June 27.

“Andrews has worked in local government for 19 years, most recently as the City Manager of Covington, Ga. He also previously served as the Assistant City Administrator for the City of Smyrna, Ga. and as the Economic Development Director in Sugar Hill, Ga. He also served in numerous leadership roles in Temple, Fla. from 2003 to 2014,” according to a news release.

He holds a master’s in public administration and a doctorate in organizational leadership and is one of 1,300 managers with a credential from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).

“I am very pleased to have Scott joining our ranks among the City of Bakersfield’s leaders,” said City Manager Christian Clegg. “Scott brings a great deal of city management experience along with a particular enthusiasm for local government community building that I believe will be invaluable to the City of Bakersfield as we move into the future.”

Andrews said he was excited to join the team, adding: “It is so invigorating to be a part of the leadership team for the ninth-largest City in California during this exciting transition period. Bakersfield is at a monumental crossroads in its history. We must simultaneously work to preserve Bakersfield's unique culture and charm, and balance that with those clamoring for the quality-of-life amenities and initiatives provided to residents in other similar sized communities. The next few years will help to define what Bakersfield will become for the remainder of this century and we are up for the challenge.”
