The City of Beaumont lost a longtime public servant Tuesday, with the passing of Council Member Jeff Fox, 53. Fox had served on the council for the past 15 years and was about to start his fourth and final term on the dais.
Mayor Brenda Knight issued an emotional statement, expressing sympathy for Fox’s family:
“As a council we are filled with sadness and grief, our hearts go out to Lori and his boys. We will miss Jeff’s sense of humor, friendship and dedication to this community."
Fox had recently been suffering from an illness which caused him to miss several council meetings. The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed, however.
In addition to his time on the council, Fox had once served as a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy. He was a member of the Riverside Transportation Authority for 13 years and had successfully lobbied the federal government for funding for important Beaumont city projects. Fox was also a U.S. Army veteran and charter member of VFW Post 233.
