San Diego has been named the best city for dog owners in California by LawnStarter. San Diego came in 4th place nationally behind Orlando and Miami, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada.
LawnStarter assigned dog-friendliness scores to 175 of the biggest cities in the U.S. The scores were based on 24 key indicators across six categories: Housing, Community, Care, Services, Businesses, and Affordability. Metrics included average home and yard size; number of dog meetups and events; dog-friendly laws; pet stores and animal hospitals per square mile; pet trainers, groomers, and sitters per capita; and the cost of pet insurance.
These were the top 10 cities for dog owners in the Golden State and their national rankings:
