New York may be the coffee capital of America, but new rankings from WalletHub say San Francisco isn’t far behind. The Bay City was No. 3 on the credit site’s latest list of the best coffee cities in America. Seattle took the No. 2 spot.
To determine the rankings, the researchers compared the 100 most populous cities on over a dozen metrics, including the average price of a pack of joe; average spending per household on coffee and rate of coffee consumption; coffee and tea manufacturers per capita; and even the number of coffee lover meet-ups in a given city.
Here are a few more highlights from WalletHub’s buzzworthy list:
• The city with the highest percentage of adult coffee drinkers per capita is Santa Ana. Nearby Anaheim is in second place.
• Fremont sees the highest average spending on coffee per household, followed by Irvine and San Francisco. The lowest spending on coffee is in Newark, New Jersey.
• The three cities with the highest average price for a pack of coffee were all in California: San Francisco, Fremont, and Oakland. Santa Ana has the most expensive cappuccinos.
• In addition to San Francisco, four California cities made the top 20 on WalletHub’s list of the best coffee cities in America: Los Angeles (No. 5); San Diego (No. 10); Oakland (No. 19); and Fremont (No. 20).
