Folsom, California is the best city for raising a family, according to new rankings from WalletHub. The Sacramento County city earned a total score of 80.4 on the credit rating website’s list, pushed over the top by socioeconomic factors like high median family income, housing affordability (Folsom was No. 1 in this category), and one of the lowest percentages of people living below the poverty line.
To determine the rankings, WalletHub compared 254 cities across four key categories: 1) Family Life & Fun 2) Education, Health & Safety 3) Affordability and 4) Socioeconomic Environment. The site considered factors such as share of families with children, playgrounds, crime rates, divorce rates, and housing prices as part of its analysis.
