Retired Bell Police Chief Randy Adams has a nice little nest egg to depend on, according to Nevada-based Transparent California. The website, which tracks government spending, recently released previously-unseen 2015 pension data from the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and found Bell’s ex-top cop with $288,378 in annual payouts—the highest pension in the Los Angeles area.
In 2014, Adams agreed to pay the city more than $200,000 as part of a legal settlement. The chief, who had earned an eye-popping $457,000 in one year, was blamed for looking the other way despite evidence of widespread scandal all around him. Astronomical salaries for city employees eventually cost Bell some $20 million.
In addition to Bell, Adams’ pension reflects his previous work for the cities of Glendale and Simi Valley, said Transparent California research director Robert Fellner.
