Teresa Jacobo is the most recent Bell official to be sentenced for the corruption that plagued the city in recent years. Today, she was sentenced to two years in state prison. She was also ordered to pay more than $242,000 for her involvement in the scandal.
Of the five elected officials named in the Bell scandal, Jacobo's sentence is the longest so far.
In April, she pleaded no contest to the charges of misappropriating public funds.
As her time in court came to a close, Jacobo gave a tearful apology, saying “with all my heart I apologize to the city of Bell.”
