Buena Park City Manager Jim Vanderpool is leaving next month for the same position in neighboring Anaheim.
“City leaders are sad to see Vanderpool go, but are glad he’s not going too far,” said Buena Park Mayor Fred Smith (Orange County Breeze). “He’s helped our city do so many things. You couldn’t ask for a better City Manager.”
Vanderpool has worked for Buena Park for the past two and a half decades. He’ll be replaced by Assistant City Manager Aaron France, who also oversees the Economic Development Division, Purchasing Division, Visit Buena Park, and the City’s marketing and social media.
Anaheim leaders voted to accept the resignation of former city manager Chris Zapata in April. The closed session vote was 5-2. The reasons for Zapata’s departure are unclear, but it came after he expressed concerns about a $6.5 million city contract with advertising bureau, Visit Anaheim.
