California City Hires Its Eighth City Manager in Three Years

California City has hired a new interim city manager. Martín Piñon is the fifth manager to serve over the past 12 months and the eighth city manager in three years.

In a YouTube video, Piñon addressed the elephant in the room.

“Why the individuals left and didn’t stay, I don’t know the reasons behind that but … to me that doesn’t intimidate me at all. I’m kind of challenged and interested in working these things through," he said.

Piñon most recently worked as a human resources director in Desert Hot Springs. As a retired annuitant employee, he’ll earn $86 an hour.

Piñon succeeds Michele Martinez, who resigned as interim city manager this month over concerns for her personal safety. Martinez had only been on the job for 10 weeks.
