West Hollywood’s new minimum wage kicked in July 1, and it’s the highest of any city in the nation.
WeHo workers must now be paid a minimum of $19.08 an hour. The rate will rise again this time next year, in line with the Consumer Price Index.
Statewide, the minimum wage is $15.50 per hour. San Francisco's minimum wage is $18.07 an hour. In Los Angeles, it’s $16.78. Previously, Seattle had the country's highest minimum wage at $18.69 per hour.
Reactions in WeHo have been mixed. Workers say the change was necessary in light of rising inflation. Some WeHo businesses say they can’t afford it and will have to cut staff.
Employers who are struggling to meet the new requirements can apply for a one-year delay. Learn more here.
