California has filed a lawsuit against the City of Norwalk over its temporary ban on new homeless shelters.
The suit was filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The moratorium was first approved in August, with city leaders citing threats to public health and safety. The policy also applies to new laundromats, payday loan businesses, and liquor stores.
Despite a legal threat from the state, Norwalk extended the policy in September. As a result, the city lost state funding for homelessness and housing.
Norwalk is just the latest city to be taken to court by the state for allegedly violating housing laws.
