When the time comes to hang up your hat and exit the workforce, a number of questions may cross your mind. Have you saved enough? How should you spend your time? And, given life’s new constraints, is it time to consider a different city?
Fortunately for you, Forbes just ranked the best places to retire in each state. It based its results on a multitude of factors, including cost of living, crime rates, air quality, and availability of physicians. It also took into account the Milken Institute’s ranking of the best cities for successful aging, walkability and bikeability.
According to Forbes, Sacramento is the place to be for those entering their golden years. Its advantages include a higher-than-average supply of doctors, a moderate climate, and a good economy. Setbacks include the top marginal income tax rate (13.3%), poor air quality, and a serious crime rate above the national average.
Eureka, California was runner-up.
