California’s Top Biking Cities, Ranked

Santa Barbara has been named the leading bicycle city of California, according to new rankings from PeopleForBikes.

Santa Barbara scored a 3.1 out of 5 in the group’s latest PlacesForBikes study, making it the 12th city for bicycling nationwide. Two Colorado towns — Boulder and Fort Collins — were named the top bicycling cities in America with respective scores of 3.7 and 3.6.

To determine city rankings, PeopleForBikes examined ridership estimates, safety, reach, network, and acceleration.

Here were the top 10 cities for bicycling in California:

3. San Diego
4. Ventura
5. Lompoc
6. Goleta
7. Long Beach
8. Santa Maria
9. Carpinteria
10. Buellton
