SmartAsset has released rankings of the country’s top “boomtowns” — fast-growing cities characterized by growing economies, new businesses, and plenty of new construction. The financial security website analyzed 500 cities across the following metrics:
- Five-year population change
- Average yearly GDP growth
- Five-year growth in number of businesses
- Five-year change in number of housing units
- September 2022 unemployment rate
- One-year change in unemployment rate
- Five-year change in household income
Nationally, Idaho led the pack, with Nampa at #1 and Meridian at #2. Murfreesboro, TN, New Braunfels, TX and Fort Myers, FL rounded out the top 5.
These were California’s top boomtowns:
- Menifee (#7)
- Chino (#10)
- Rancho Cordova (#12)
- Victorville (#13)
- Roseville (#18)
- Carmichael (#24)
- Perris (#27)
- Hesperia (#34)
- Manteca (#36)
- Richmond (#38)
